NAACP Image Awards: Best Red Carpet Looks

On February 5th, the 47th Annual NAACP Image Awards made history as artists came together to recognize some great work that was done by people of Color throughout the year of 2015 in film, television, music, and literature. On the red carpet of this outstanding, honorable platform many artists made heads turn on the red carpet at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

Sanaa Lathan looks stunning in this red gown. Upholding the gown is a silver studded neckline. Sanaa keeps it simple and classy as her jewelry only consists of diamond and black bracelets. Her earrings are black dangling hoops. Her shoes are open-toed black stilettos, partnering well with the red gown. Her ponytail, parted to the side, gives a sleek look. As for makeup, it is natural with a light pink lip. The only other accessory is the black clutch in hand, and her smile!

Trace Ellis Ross is tuning her inner Cruella DeVille in this black dress created by Rubin Singer. What makes this dress unique are the triangle and oval shapes in the dress. The triangle is in the front but ovals follow throughout the mid-section of the dress. The dress is oval shaped at the neck, with padded shoulders. This beautiful piece is cut directly in the middle, showing off the legs, not to mention her shoes. Her Schutz shoes are horizontally strapped and open-toed, following the theme of black. Her jewelry is subtle, consisting of a ring designed by Beladora, and earrings by Graziela Gems. The metal black clutch is futuristic, by Calvin Klein. Her hair is styled using her natural curl with parted bangs and a low ponytail. Her eye makeup is dramatic, heavy eyeliner for effect including a nude lip.

In all white Viola Davis is radiant in a scooped-neck, sleeveless gown. This gown is decorated with silver gems and jewels to about a quarter length of the gown. Her lip is bright plum, and eyes are smoky. She is also wearing jewelry by EFFY. Viola’s hair is fun in a loose-curled short cut. Elegance never grows old.

Michael B. Jordan is wearing a Dior single buttoned black tuxedo. With a white collared shirt, black bow tie, black banded watch, and black-patented leather shoes. Michael looks like such a gentleman!

Jada Pinkett Smith stole the show in this Marchesa strapless teal gown. The ruffles throughout the gown fall beautifully. Mrs. Smith is also wearing gold earrings and a necklace. Her hair is styled in a middle-part and is swooped to the back. As for makeup, her eye shadow is gold and lips are a pale pink.

Mr. Smith, is killing it in his black on black ensemble. In a double-buttoned tux, Will is wearing a black collared shirt and black bow tie. Nevertheless, it’s his shoes that catch the eye in this one! They are black and ombrè to an army color green. The Smiths look good individually but together, they look even better!

Kerry Washington may start a Scandal with this look! In a Victoria Beckham dress, in black and white she looks angelic. This dress is sleeveless and wraps around the waist and falls down at the shoulders. The interior of the top half of the dress is aligned in black and a metallic pattern. Her shoes are by Gianvito Rossi, the clutch by Jimmy Choo, and earrings by Neillane Jewelry. Kerry’s hair is pulled back, leaving pieces in the front aimlessly, creating a messy look.

Taraji P. Henson wore a Balmain nude colored gown. The long-sleeved ensemble flattered her curves. The dress is cut in a v in the front with jewels to the left. Her shoes are gold open-toe stilettos. The Empire star’s hair is in a middle-part with the classic straight hair. Taraji P. Henson’s makeup consists of gold eye shadow and a dark pink lip. Olivier Rousteing slayed this look!

John Legend sure doesn’t look in ordinary in this Burberry blue tuxedo. What makes this look stand out is the white collared shirt because it stands out from the dark colors in the suit, such as blue and black. The black lapel, bow tie, and shoes pull this entire ensemble together and makes it work.

Shonda Rhimes’ dress consists of grey, back and dark blue. These combinations of colors are fantastic together. The pattern of the dress appears to be blue flowers. The dress looks like a piece of art as one color flows into the next. Shonda’s hair is in a tight Shirley temple curl. Her eye makeup is a dramatic smoky eye; her lip is a dark pink. Her jewelry is silver dangling earrings. This is a great depiction of how it is possible for one to be classy while covering up, great job.

The NAACP Image Awards never leaves its viewers in the dark concerning the black culture. This year of the Red Carpet Awards it was difficult to choose the best looks, everyone looked amazing, especially the ones we chose to highlight. Congratulations to all of the contestants and winners, keep celebrating who you are and celebrate with pride!
